Lefkada is one of the most unique islands in Greece — mainly because it’s one of the few you can reach without ever taking a ferry.
I’ve visited Lefkada twice, once when I was very young and again more recently, and it’s a place that really stood out to me the second time around.
What makes Lefkada so memorable is how you arrive. Instead of stepping onto a boat, you drive across a floating bridge that connects the island to the mainland, almost making it feel like a peninsula.

The drive is fairly straightforward, especially if you’re used to long drives. Since Lefkada is a bit more spread out — especially if you’re staying outside the main town — having a car makes a big difference. When I visited, we stayed in a smaller town, so having a car felt necessary to get around easily.

Lefkada doesn’t have its own airport, but you can fly to a nearby airport and drive the rest of the way.
