Some places in Greece live in my memory as vividly as they do in my camera roll.

Over the years, I’ve visited several Greek islands at different stages of my life—family trips, student adventures, solo runs, and long summer days on the water. These Greek island photos aren’t just snapshots of beautiful landscapes; they’re tied to specific moments, stories, and feelings.

Here are a few of the Greek islands I’ve photographed and the memories behind each image.

Greek Island Photos

Island of Lefkada

This was my first time back on Lefkada since I was a toddler. In my family, there’s a “famous photo” of me as a little kid getting absolutely drenched by the waves at one of the island’s most well-known beaches—proof that Lefkada made an impression on me early on.

On this trip, we took a boat tour around the island, which ended up being one of the highlights.

Boat tours are probably my favorite island activity: lots of swimming, endless sunshine, and a completely different perspective of the coastline. It’s also one of the best ways to explore an island.

I took this photo during one of our swimming stops, looking out at the deep blue water stretching into the distance.

Island of Hydra

Hydra is one of the most unique islands in Greece because it has zero motor vehicles. People get around entirely on foot—or, in some cases, by donkey—which gives the island a slower, almost timeless feel.

This trip was a weekend day excursion organized for students at the American College of Athens while I was studying there. We took a bus to Piraeus port and then a ferry over to Hydra.

The day was spent exploring, swimming at different beaches, and wandering through the island’s villages.

I took this photo during one of those wanderings, simply walking with no real destination and letting the island guide the way.

Island of Zakynthos

Zakynthos is one of the islands I’ve visited the most, and it somehow never gets old. Every trip feels familiar but still exciting.

I took this photo during a morning run last summer while visiting the island.

Zakynthos island

Running early in the day, before the heat and crowds set in, is one of my favorite ways to experience a place—it feels quiet, personal, and very real.

Island of Crete

This photo was taken on my very first trip to Crete.

As the largest island in Greece, Crete feels like its own world, with endless landscapes, cities, and hidden corners to explore.

I don’t remember the exact location where this photo was taken, but I do remember it was during a long car ride across the island.

Sometimes the most memorable views come unexpectedly, seen through a car window while moving from one place to another.

Island of Kefalonia

I took this photo a few years ago on a trip to Kefalonia, which is one of my favorite Greek islands to visit.

This shot is from a lookout point halfway down the cliffside road to Myrtos Beach—one of the most famous beaches on the island.

No matter how many photos you see of it, the view in real life cannot be captured through a film lens; you need to see it with your own eyes.

Island of Aegina

Another island, another boat tour—and, as usual, a lot of fun. I actually wrote an entire blog post about this trip, which you can read here.

This photo was taken at our last stop of the day, at a beautiful seaside location where we swam, relaxed, and soaked in the final moments of the afternoon.

These photos capture just a small part of my experiences on the Greek islands, but each one holds a story that goes beyond the frame.

From childhood memories to student trips and solo runs, the islands continue to shape how I see Greece—and myself—through the lens.

This post was all about Greek island photos.
